Fernando Lui
Senior Colorist & Founder
Fernando began his career in 2001 as a Junior Colorist at Casablanca Finish, then one of Latin America's leading post-production houses. Over five years, he immersed himself in the world of film-based color grading, mastering telecine systems such as Ursa Gold, Diamond, ITK Millennium, and Spirit 2K, with Pogle and Da Vinci 2K consoles. Early on, his distinct visual sensibility stood out in the advertising market—by 2004, two campaigns he graded were awarded at the Cannes Lions Festival.
In 2005, he joined Cinecolor, a Chilean entertainment-focused multinational with a strong portfolio in feature films. After five years as a Colorist, he became Head of the Color Grading and Digital Intermediate departments, playing a key role in acclaimed projects like The Way He Looks—Brazil’s official submission for Best International Feature Film at the 87th Academy Awards and winner of the Teddy Award at the Berlin Film Festival.
In 2013, he established the color department at Clan VFX in São Paulo. Three years later, in 2016, he founded Marla, a boutique studio dedicated exclusively to the craft of color.
Now based in Barcelona, where he leads Marla’s European division, Fernando continues to shape a unique visual language rooted in emotion and collaboration. He works closely with directors, cinematographers, and production companies across Brazil and internationally. His portfolio includes work for global brands such as Nike, Coca-Cola, Budweiser, Ford, Volkswagen, Corona, Pepsi, Under Armour, and Samsung—many of which have earned recognition at top festivals like Berlin Commercial, Cannes Lions, D&AD, Ciclope, and El Ojo.
